ATLANTA – The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) welcomes Johnny Grant to the Board of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities. Grant was appointed to the DBHDD board by Governor Nathan Deal on Friday, March 15.   

“I was honored to see Senator Grant sworn in by Governor Deal this morning at the state capitol.  We are excited to have him join the Board of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities,” said Frank Berry, DBHDD Commissioner. “His expertise and interest in the mental health and developmental disability community will be invaluable to the board and the individuals we serve.”

Previously, Grant served four terms in the Georgia General Assembly representing the 25th Senate District. Presently, he is the director of community engagement and economic development for Georgia College and State University. He also serves as vice chairman of the Exchange Bank Board of Directors in Milledgeville and is on the boards of several volunteer organizations in the Middle Georgia area. During his service as state senator, Grant received numerous legislative awards for his work in the fields of mental health and public safety. 

He earned a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech as well as a master’s degree in Public Administration from Georgia College. Grant and his wife, Carol, have three grown children. They attend St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and reside in Milledgeville.  

The Georgia Board of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities establishes the general policy to be followed by the Department. The nine-member board is appointed by the Governor. Each member of the board is appointed for a term of three years following initial appointments of staggered terms as provided by statute.
