State Hospital Price Transparency

In compliance with the national mandates for pricing transparency, the state hospitals managed by Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities provide a list of standard charges.

Each of the state hospitals has one basic charge for the daily cost of all services and products other than medication and any EKG administered to an individual, which are billed separately. Our hospitals only charge individuals for the basic charge, for medication, and for an EKG.

Upon admission, the hospital follows a standardized process to assess the ability of each admitted individual to pay for the cost of their care. Individuals who are determined to be able to pay the full cost of their care will be billed the full cost of care.  Individuals who are determined to not be able to pay the full cost of care will be billed the percentage of the full cost of care that the hospital has determined they have the ability to pay. The actual bills assessed to individuals who are not able to pay for their full cost of care will each be unique and dependent upon the individual’s specific circumstances.
