ATLANTA - Georgia students who have pledged to live a drug free life will be recognized during the Governor’s Annual Red Ribbon Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, April 10, 2012. The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities’ Division of Addictive Diseases will host the event at the Atlanta History Center, 130 West Paces Ferry Rd., NW in Atlanta from 10:00 a.m. - Noon.

Entries were submitted by students representing elementary, middle and high schools as well as community organizations. They were judged on a number of categories such as originality, creativity, theme, and community involvement which must incorporate living a drug free life. Finalists include Flat Shoals Elementary School, Ronald McNair Discovery Learning Academy, Bright Star Elementary School, Bethune Middle School, the Council on Alcohol & Drugs, and the Live Healthy Douglas Coalition. Winners will be announced during the ceremony and this year’s overall winner will receive the Perpetual Trophy.

DBHDD Commissioner Frank E. Shelp will make special remarks and Governor Nathan Deal is scheduled to address the participants via video message during the celebration.
