ATLANTA – Beverly Rollins has been named Executive Director of the Division of Developmental Disabilities by Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) Commissioner Frank Shelp, MD, MPH. Rollins, who had been acting executive director since September 2009, previously served as the division’s Chief Fiscal Officer.

“We’re pleased Beverly’s agreed to take on this new role,” said Commissioner Shelp. “Her hands-on experience with fiscal operations is extremely helpful since the services we provide for people with developmental disabilities are delivered through thousands of contracted providers across the state. She was also involved in developing the state’s newest Medicaid waivers, which allow us to support people in their own communities, so she’s a good person to help us refine and improve them. But above all, it’s her combination of compassionate heart and hard-nosed fiscal discipline that will make her such a great asset to our team.”

During her time as acting Executive Director, Rollins has focused on three goals that she says will continue to be her focus: improving communications with service providers, advocates, and families of the developmentally disabled; increasing the capacity of community services by recruiting additional qualified providers and monitoring them better; and changing how the state collects and shares information about the services it provides. In keeping with the latter, Rollins said her division will soon release its first-ever Quality Management System Annual Report.

“I’m grateful for this chance to make a difference in the lives of the people we serve,” said Rollins. “I have the same hopes for people with developmental disabilities that I have for my own children or for anyone in the community: that they have the chance to live full, independent lives.”

Rollins, a resident of Stone Mountain, Georgia, holds a Master’s of Public Administration from Keller Graduate School of Management in Decatur and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from DeVry University in Atlanta. She has worked with the state of Georgia for over eighteen years.
