This series of one-day interactive workshops are intended for Direct Support Professionals so that they have a better understanding of the intent and expectations of the Medicaid HCBS Settings Rule. The Transformation Change workshop will be offered 8 times across the state as an opportunity to learn and gain ideas to shift HCBS from a systems-framework to a more individualized framework where the person who uses services is at the center of his/her life, determining preferences, having autonomy, and making choices that work for them. A deeper understanding of the purpose of the Rule and how to implement will create the “shift” to more person-centered practices in our daily work. Furthermore, through our better understanding of the foundation of person-centered practices in service provision, the people we work for will begin to realize their individual role and live out their dreams versus the usual, traditional manner in which services have been considered, discussed, and provided.

This workshop is designed for Direct Support Professionals recognizing their valued role in supporting the people who are using the NOW/COMP waivers. We are recommending 2 - 3 DSPs from each provider agency in each region served to take information back and mentor others within their organizations.

Each workshop will be limited to 60 participants and will start promptly at 9:30am and end at 4:00pm each day. Registration will begin at 9:00am.

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Understand person-centered practices and the elements of person-centered practices that support a people to have a full, meaningful life.
  • Discuss how person-centered practices are relevant to people with I/DD, how to use them to support people to have more meaningful lives.
  • Recognize their individual role in implementing the expectations of the Settings Rule
  • Articulate the intent of the Settings Rule, describing how and why it matters in the lives of the people we support
  • Identify current services, practices, or places that need to “shift” to meet the expectations of the HCBS Settings Rule in their daily work
  • Differentiate between service implementation that meets and does not meet the HCBS Settings Rule.

Participants will leave with a plan for implementing at least one expectation of the Settings Rule within the next 60 days within your agencies.
