The Power of Wonder Workshop
This workshop invites participants to think intentionally about how we can “shift” current service delivery to align with person-centered practices and the expectations of the Medicaid HCBS Settings Rule—moving away from a one-size-fits-all approach.
The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is pleased to offer a two-day interactive workshop for DD Providers, Regional Field Office Staff, Support Coordinators, Intensive Support Coordinators, Planning List Administrators, Behavior Support Specialists, and Nurses. This workshop invites participants to think intentionally about how we can “shift” current service delivery to align with person-centered practices and the expectations of the Medicaid HCBS Settings Rule—moving away from a one-size-fits-all approach.
Dr. Beth Mount, along with Michelle Schwartz, M.Ed., CCC-SLP, and Katie Bailey, LCSW, from Sangha Unity Network, will facilitate this two-day workshop. The Power of Wonder: Re-Imagining Services in Georgia is a natural extension of the recent Transformation Change workshops offered by DBHDD. This experience creates space for thoughtful dialogue, meaningful conversations, and real-world stories of success. Participants will explore how to design and deliver services grounded in personhood, supporting people as citizens who have gifts to offer —not just clients in a system.
To wonder is to welcome awe and curiosity. Curiosity is essential in our work—it leads us to ask better questions, learn from others, and become more fully engaged. It opens the door to new ideas, possibilities, and joy in our daily work.
This workshop, designed and facilitated by Sangha Unity Network (SUN), promotes learning, reflection, and guidance for participants seeking to “shift” service provision toward authentic person-centered practices. Self-advocates and provider organization leaders who participated in SUN’s Learning Journey will share their own stories of transformation. A variety of interactive teaching strategies—large and small group discussion, co-creation, videos, graphics, and facilitated conversations—will be used throughout the workshop.
