Employee Cooperation Needed During Outlook Transition
February 21, 2014

Staff cooperation will be an important part of our ongoing transition from Groupwise to Microsoft Exchange/Outlook. By Monday, we will have moved about 350 DBHDD users to the new system. This migration offers many benefits to DBHDD, including:

  • Eliminating GroupWise, which is experiencing email latency and secure document sharing issues (Ironmail). Additionally, this version of Groupwise doesn’t support the department’s needed capacity.
  • Bringing DBHDD up to date with current technology allowing us to integrate more easily with other technologies such as SharePoint.
  • Improved email compatibility with our business partners, improved communication timeliness, information sharing and security of email information.

During this process, users will be notified with a timeline of their move to the new system. Users may experience some challenges during this transformation. However at the end of the day it will be worth the change. Our Office of Information Technology, Georgia Technology Authority (GTA) and IBM Teams are working continuously to improve the transformation process by getting the right resources in place to assist each of our users during this change.

View the support matrix for the upcoming week in which 270 users will move to Microsoft Exchange/Outlook. In subsequent weeks, we will have a support structure as we move ahead with the migration. The user instructions for email migration will be communicated well in advance to staff who are being moved. The department is providing online and onsite training on the new system. This information will be communicated to staff before the move.

I am looking forward to the successful implementation of this change and your cooperative support for helping DBHDD move forward with this substantial improvement in our email technology.
