Friday’s tragic events at Sandy Hook Elementary School have left this nation heartbroken, and we continue to grieve for each life that was lost. While information is still being revealed and many questions are unanswered, we extend our heartfelt condolences and offer any resources that may be of service for the community of Newtown, Connecticut.

As commissioner of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities and chair of the Behavioral Health Coordinating Council, I called the Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services Commissioner Patricia Rehmer on Friday to offer our condolences and support. Georgia stands with Newtown ready to help in any way possible. There is much work to be done, and as we become more informed in the days and months ahead we will continue our commitment to offer care for the individuals we serve.

Residents can call Georgia’s Crisis and Access line (GCAL) at 1-800-715-4225 or visit www.mygcal.com for a local 24 hour resource of all services that are available. Additional resources that offer support are also available through DBHDD’s website at dbhdd.georgia.gov.
