The DBHDD Division of IDD is pleased to sponsor the Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) Curriculum Training that is offered to community residential and day service providers using a train the trainer format. These sessions will be conducted via Webex video conferencing, online and in-person.

The PBS Curriculum is specifically designed for training direct support professionals and supervisors with the principles and practices of positive behavior supports to use in daily interactions with people with challenging behaviors in settings providing supports and services.
Positive behavior supports are effective strategies that addresses helping people to overcome challenging behaviors, and to support people with disabilities to be as independent as possible and enjoy life. The content of the PBS curriculum teaches strategies that create a respectful individual-staff environment and values the importance of the individual. Positive behavior support must be person-centered. The PBS curriculum consists of 25 modules. Maximum class size for train the trainer is 12. Participants must be selected by their agency leadership to become designated PBS trainers for your organization. The curriculum is competency based requiring participants to demonstrate a mastery of knowledge and skills with the help of quizzes, role plays, and other activities, and the ability to teach the curriculum to others.
The supervisor modules help train supervisors to become effective managers. Following successful completion of the training series, the trainer is observed on the job by trained DBHDD behavioral services staff to demonstrate the teaching of the skills acquired to direct support staff within their organization. The PBS Training is published by the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD). The development of all editions of the PBS curriculum has been completed by Habilitative Management Consultants, Inc. under the direction of Dr. Dennis Reid.
The PBS hybrid training schedule has been modified to consist of 3 half day virtual classes in the first week and 2 full day in-person sessions for competency evaluation the following week to provide the attendees the maximum level of active engagement and participation.
Each virtual session will be held from 9:00am - 12:30pm except for the sessions on Mar 16 & 17 as these 2 sessions will be held in-person from 9:00am - 4:00pm. You must attend each of the 5 sessions.
