The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is the state agency that focuses solely on policies, programs, and services for people with severe persistent mental illness, substance use disorders, and developmental and intellectual disabilities. 

Our workforce of 4,600 is distributed within four divisions: Behavioral Health, Developmental Disabilities, Hospital Services, Strategy, Technology, & Performance Management, and a group of enterprise-wide offices.

DBHDD operates six field offices and five hospitals throughout the state of Georgia, offering various services based on the populations they serve and the capacity of community providers. These hospitals provide a spectrum of care from 23-hour observation through residential services.

Hospital locations include Atlanta, Milledgeville, Augusta, Columbus, and Savannah.

Nurse Positions
Assess client health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records. Administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled clients. May advise clients on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case management. Administers prescribed medications or starts intravenous fluids, and notes times and amounts on clients' charts. Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate client care plans. Maintains accurate, detailed reports and client records. 

Psychologist Positions
Participate on interdisciplinary recovery planning teams; facilitate group and individual therapy; create and support unit-wide behavioral interventions; participate in the development of individualized recovery plans; provide clinical supervision of mental health counselors, psychology interns, and post-doctoral fellows; consult on intellectual, personality, or other psychological evaluations; [forensic only] complete forensic mental health evaluations to determine competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility, and violence risk, as well as related report preparation and expert testimony. Specific duties vary depending on the position.
