Dr. Cunningham brings more than 20 years of executive healthcare leadership experience, with extensive expertise in behavioral health and hospital operations. Throughout her career, she has led large, complex hospital systems, behavioral health service lines and multidisciplinary teams with a focus on strengthening clinical quality, improving patient experience and outcomes and enhancing organizational performance.  

Prior to joining DBHDD, Dr. Cunningham served as Executive Director of Sheppard Pratt Solutions and as System Vice President of Behavioral Health Services for Main Line Health. She also spent nearly three decades with Cone Health in North Carolina, where her leadership roles included hospital president and senior vice president with responsibility for behavioral health and women’s and children’s services.  

Her experience includes leading behavioral health hospitals, developing crisis services, integrating behavioral health into primary care and building collaborative partnerships with clinicians, communities and policymakers. Throughout her career, Dr. Cunningham has demonstrated a commitment to bring people and systems together to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve outcomes for patients and families.  

As DBHDD continues to invest in its state hospital system, expand capacity and strengthen its workforce, Dr. Cunningham provides leadership in advancing a coordinated approach to hospital operations and supporting the teams who care for Georgians with complex needs.
