Season's Greetings

Season’s Greetings! I hope that each of you enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving. Amidst the beautiful weather, bustle and delicious food, my most treasured time included hearty laughter with family and friends. I hope you savored the same.

My reflections of gratitude certainly include the opportunity to lead a team at DBHDD that serves Georgia’s most vulnerable citizens each and every day. With the holiday season upon us, I recognize continued chances to be grateful. This month is particularly special because I celebrated my first anniversary as your Commissioner on December 1. It has been an extraordinary year, and I am humbled and amazed by our progress each day.

As 2017 draws to a close, I look forward to taking some quiet moments to reflect further on the past year. The highs and lows are tempered by my deep appreciation for the lessons I have learned from working with you. Whether you work at one of our hospitals, in a field office, or 2 Peachtree, or are an advocate partner, or a provider in our network, I believe we are on a mission together. We have much to build on in the coming year!

The holidays are also a time to share gifts with special people in our lives. Some of the best treasures are not found in a store or online, but dwell within each of us. Each of you has unique gifts that can make a meaningful difference to the people around you. This is why I am so proud of DBHDD’s enterprise-wide embrace of the Strengths Deployment Inventory (SDI). This has been a powerful tool to raise awareness of our strengths and motivations. I have personally experienced the power of positivity that this effort has unleashed. I look forward to continued learnings as we proceed statewide.

In the spirit of the season, I encourage you to focus on your strengths and share them as often as you can – with your co-workers, your family, your friends, strangers in busy parking lots, and of course, the people we serve. Wellness, recovery, and independence are rooted in moments of hope, healing, perseverance, and kindness.

Warm wishes for a safe and wonderful holiday season. I believe we’ve set the stage for forward progress in 2018.

Sincerely,

Judy Fitzgerald
