Feeling Like Fall
It’s finally starting to feel like Fall, with cooler air, football, and pumpkin spice everything. Fall is a season of change, and though the leaves on the trees stayed green a little longer this year, we know that change is always coming.
In our work at DBHDD, we are ever mindful of the continuously evolving health care environment both nationally and in Georgia. As we gear up for the 2018 Legislative Session, we know that the health of all Georgians is a top priority. Change is constant, especially in today’s health care industry. We all have a choice: to resist, tolerate, or embrace change.
The skill-set of the future is no longer merely being an expert in something. It’s being nimble and adaptable, and learning to meet new demands. Gone are the days where we can just do something we’ve always done and expect it to work in the future the same way it worked in the past.
Across our service delivery system – in our hospitals, field offices, state office, and our network of community-based providers – I see hardworking men and women embracing change and learning to adapt every day. I am proud of this spirit and determination because I know that the DBHDD team is well prepared to meet the growing needs of a dynamic health care environment.
I want to issue a challenge to each of you, whether you work in our hospitals, field offices, state office, or provider network: continue looking for opportunities around you to embrace a spirit of change. Look for opportunities to raise your hand to take on new challenges; seek activities that require new skills; understand your own strengths and limitations. I do not have a crystal ball to predict the structures and mechanisms of the changing environment, but I do know that you increase your chance of success when you accept that change is inevitable.
Yet even in a time of great flux, we still count on your commitment to the people we serve. For that, and for all of your hard work and dedication, I am extremely grateful and honored to work with each of you.
Sincerely,
Judy Fitzgerald
Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.
