Prior to joining DBHDD, Dr. Gundlapalli worked with individuals with serious and persistent Mental illness and served in various capacities at the Utah State Hospital in Provo, UT. From 1999 to 2013, she served as Clinical Director of the older adult civil unit at Utah State Hospital, and from 2013 to 2019, she served as its Chief medical officer.  In her role, she was responsible for the day-to-day clinical and administrative operations of the 320-bed psychiatric facility with pediatric, adult, geriatric, and forensic units.

Dr. Gundlapalli received her medical degree from Madras Medical College in Chennai, India in 1990. She then completed her four-year psychiatry residency at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine where she received the best outgoing resident award. She went on to complete a one-year geriatric psychiatry fellowship at Yale New-Haven Hospital of Yale University. She is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
