How to Report a Concern or Complaint about the Quality of Care or Safety

The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities encourages the involvement of staff, the individuals we serve, family members, visitors, and others who advocate for the individuals we serve to ensure that we provide quality services in a safe and secure environment. We assure employees that there will be no reprisals or retaliatory disciplinary actions against an employee who reports concerns regarding the safety or quality of care.

As we strive to provide an opportunity to assist each individual on his or her road to recovery in a safe environment, we encourage individuals and families to speak with staff and personally meet with the individual’s treatment team to discuss health concerns, treatment regimens, prescribed medications, social issues, and to assist with discharge planning.  In order to attend to any immediate needs, please inform staff of any:

  • special needs of the individual;
  • observed changes in the individual’s mental or physical status (e.g., signs/symptoms of pain, agitation, etc.); or
  • quality of care or safety and/or environmental issues or concerns.
