Fee-for-Service Initiative

The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) has previously communicated an intent to move selected state-contracted services to a fee-for-service reimbursement structure through a phase-in process that will begin January 1, 2016. In an effort to ensure the stability of the network and access to services, the department has recently re-evaluated readiness to implement this process. Due to the adjusted go-live date of the ASO’s behavioral health information system and evaluation of provider readiness, the department has determined that an adjusted implementation date for the Fee-for-Service Initiative is warranted.

DBHDD will maintain existing funding structures through June 30, 2016. On July 1, 2016, the department will implement the proposed changes in contract funding. This includes the movement to fee-for-service for all selected adult behavioral health and developmental disability services and fully-costed reimbursement contracts. This will affect tier 1 and tier 2 plus providers, as well as some tier 3 providers. Providers should continue to prepare internal systems, processes, and accountability measures to prepare for this initiative.

Thank you for your continued patience and progress during this time of important system transformation.
